Why Does My Car Keep Blowing Fuses?

If your car keeps blowing fuses, it’s possible that the electrical system is being overloaded. This can happen if the alternator is malfunctioning and producing voltage above 14.5 volts. This will overload the electrical system and blow out the fuses in the fuse box. To play it safe, it’s a good idea to have your vehicle towed to our shop if there is an electrical problem. If the electrical system gets extremely hot while you are driving the automobile, you may end up with an electrical fire in the vehicle.

Difficult Starts/Dead Battery

Aside from blown fuses, there are other signs that your vehicle has an electrical problem. For example, if it has been difficult to get your vehicle started because the battery keeps dying, you may have a problem with the alternator. In addition, the electrical system may be draining the battery’s charge from somewhere. Do not worry we can find out where the drain is and repair the problem.

Light/Accessory Problems

Another sign that your automobile has an electrical problem is issues with the vehicle’s lights and the power accessories. For example, assume for the moment that you program an address into your navigation system and, all of a sudden, the navigation system turns off by itself. This can be a sign that there’s an electrical problem because the navigation system is not getting enough power.

Your vehicle’s lights may also be affected. If they are not getting enough power, they will be dim and it will be difficult to see. If the fuses are blowing in your automobile because the alternator is overloading the electrical system, the lights will be brighter than they normally are.

Burning Wire/Rubber Odors

We mentioned above that an overloaded electrical system can overheat. You may be able to tell that the electrical system is overheating because you can smell burning wires or burning rubber in your vehicle. This is a sign that the electrical wiring is getting too hot and melting its insulation. Again, play it safe, and do not drive your automobile.

Battery Warning Light

Finally, drive straight to our shop if your battery warning light turns on on the dashboard. This is also a sign that your vehicle has an electrical problem. In addition, your battery could be dying or the alternator may need to be replaced.

Do not worry. We will find the electrical problem and fix it. Call us today for a service appointment.
